this year, i decided to do a fairly simple card (left) and only do the amount i thought i'd actually need (20). last year, i made close to 50 cards and had 10+ left over. i did not want leftovers this year! i figured if i needed more, i'd just make them as i needed them. well, i ended up not needing more than twenty and since i didn't over do it, i had scraps left over for thank you notes (right). some family sent gifts and/or money and i wanted to be sure they got a thank you from us this year. i can't say that i've really been good at thank you notes in the past, but i thought i'd turn over a new leaf:) sorry for the lackluster photo, i can't seem to find my good flash!

truth be told, i rarely ever scrapbook. i think the permanence of the gluing down of photos makes me a little uneasy. plus, my tastes change so much... what if i don't like this in 5 years? but, i've recently changed my mind. i like it now & my family will enjoy what i'm creating... so what's the big hold-up?!?! i am promising myself that i will document these things, these times i am sharing with my children, because before you know it, they'll be older and not so nice;) i am finding that it's a little like creative therapy for me. here's to preserving my life's story with paper and glue.

ckc was just in town this past weekend. i had a blast, totally. it's like being a kid again and waking up on christmas morning... i was giddy like no other. i love going to the vendor fair... you get to see so much stuff! it is truly inpiring. and not to mention, hard to be good there and not spend your whole life's savings! hahaha! i took two classes; one on friday morning before i went into work (i know, hardcore, right? haha) with my sister, called "top techniques for tantalizing cards", hosted by technique tuesday and then the paper crafts card swap with my mom that night. the technique tuesday class was a lot of fun. we made 5 cards and even got a set of their clear stamps and a small ink pad. i like the stamp set we used... very versatile for every day cards. definitely something i will use over and over again. i was introduced to their "technique tiles" which are like chipboard shapes except they are cream colored instead of the kraft/brown color of most chipboard shapes. the appeal of their technique tiles being cream colored is that you can just ink them to add color... instead of having to paint them, etc. and wait for them to dry. and since you can ink them a color you are stamping with, they will definitely match your project to a t! very, very cool! the card swap was also a blast. i've never done one and i must say that they are just too much fun! we made 4 cards, which were very cute and gave me lot of ideas . after going through the cards we swapped the ones we made prior to the class with the other ladies. so we all came home with 20 handmade cards. i love the idea of this. i almost wish i could put together a swap here locally. hmmm, that's something to think about:) so onto the "babies" part of this post. my younger sister is having a baby! we are all definitely excited. friday we all went to her ultrasound appointment and found out that she is going to have... a BOY! yay! now we can start shopping! hahaha. so friday was a majorly good day. i wish i had pictures to share, but i was lazy at the convention... well, i was probably just more absorbed in all the pretties! did you go to ckc here in louisville? or somewhere else recently? what did you think? leave me a comment!
also, i almost forgot to mention that i entered the card contest ckc hosts... i didn't win (total bummer), but a friend from work, deanne, did! she won second place! they are supposed to post the winners online and i'll be sure to post a link once they do! wooo-whooo, deanne!!!

my newest mini album project... all about lily! and no, i haven't finished the last one that i sneak peeked here;) i am really excited about this one. it is turning out so great and i am proud of myself! i've used a lot of techniques and a lot of different products (i tend to use products from the same line so it looks cohesive... and yet this is cohesive and funky... how about that!) i only have about 4 more pages to do and then it will be done. this time, i am keeping this one for myself... i deserve it;)
hopefully, if i stick to it, i will post the final results in a few days! here's to actually finishing something!
i seem to have a creative block when it comes to cards for boys. why is it so hard to not think about ruffles and bows when i'm not even a girly-girl? it should come easy for me! anyways, here are two cards geared for males that were needed recently...
the dino card was for my nephew who hasn't been feeling well and the 10 card was for a friend of brendan's who just turned 10. duh;) both were cut out using illustrator and my silhouette. the dino card is a gatefold card with a zigzag edge. the 10 card i am really proud of because i welded the numbers together and made it a folded card by mirroring the numbers and scoring it along the top to fold it. i hope that makes sense;) i really liked this line of paper from basic grey when it came out for the fact that brendan loveloveloved dinosaurs when he was little. now that he is 7, he doesn't talk about them much, but if i ever get around to scrapping all the dino pics i have, these papers will come in handy. for now, they make great boy cards:)
i whipped these up today for brendan to give to his teachers at school. i made the bag template in illustrator and cut them out with my silhouette. i made the little crepe paper thingies and i really see myself putting them on everything! too cute!

just getting back internet after the ice/snow storm we had here. kentucky is under a state of emergency with over 100,000 still without power. in some county's, they are under a boil water advisory or without water all together.

i just ordered one of these for my husband for valentine's day with a quote from our wedding vows. how incredibly cute! and it's miniature!!! who doesn't love miniatures? if you are interested in getting one for your sweetheart, i would suggest ordering soon... i am sure they are getting lots of requests!
this is the birth announcement i sent out for lily. we had a "photoshoot" one morning and i got some great shots of her. that is where the photo came from on the card. she is so photogenic;)
so, just a forewarning... there will be quite a few new crafty posts after this one. i am finally getting around to editing photos of things i've made recently. so look forward to this blog actually getting some attention! in other news, johnny and i did in fact get married... on july 10th to be exact. i am a thoroughly blessed little lady. and in baby news, we had the baby shower at my work, archiver's, which was a scrapbooking baby shower... a lot of fun i must add and lily's room is coming together quite nicely. i am definitely feeling the nesting bit of this pregnancy. it's hard to think that we are 21+/- days from finally meeting our little one! i am excited. and honestly, if she wants to come sooner, i won't mind;) i hope all are well!
so the last post i make i say i'm going to post more and tell you all about the baybee and what do i do? make you all wait 3 weeks. shame on me. anywho... the baybee is a girl:) and we've decided to name her lily. she is a busy bee here lately and makes her presence known. john really likes feeling her move around which is really cute. brendan likes to hug my belly and tell the baybee he loves her. man, i'm a lucky gal. john and i are talking about getting married this week. it will probably happen thursday as we are both off. i wanted to have some sort of wedding, but really i just want to be married and maybe for our 1 year anniversary we could have something small. i am hoping to have a cookout and have everyone come over to celebrate. we'll see;) i should really get my act together and get crafty, but my stuff is in disarray because john is trying to build an office/craft room in the basement so the baybee can be in the room across from us. let's just say i try and stay out of his way;) i will post more when interesting things are actually happening.
i don't post about my personal life much around here, but i wanted to let any wanderers know that today is the day that we will find out the sex of the baybee! i think i will start to post more about my personal (boring) life as well as post more in general. i haven't been "crafting" too much lately... johnny has been working a lot and i can't get myself motivated to do much of anything when no one is around;) i have however started on my first altered book which i will post the end result when i finish (will i know when i'm "finished"???) i hope everyone is well!
